Object Name Bonnet
Object ID Number 2003.52.1
Description Salvation Army Soldier's bonnet, small format with long navy blue ribbon ties. Bonnet is composed of a navy blue fine gauge straw foundation with navy blue silk lining and trim, red silk ribbon accents, and navy blue silk ribbon ties. The ties are 4 inches wide. The left tie is 22.2 inches long and the right tie is 31 inches long. The difference in the length of the ties is because the bonnet is meant to be tied in a bow on the left side of the face. The front edge of the bonnet brim features navy blue silk piping which indicates that the bonnet was worn by a soldier (member of The Salvation Army Church who has signed the Soldier's Covenant, the individual has received salvation and accepts the eleven cardinal doctrines of The Salvation Army). Red piping indicates that the bonnet was worn by an officer (ordained minister in The Salvation Army church).
